1. About this policy
Southern Hill Spices ("we", "us", "our") operates from Washington State and supplies organic spices, seafood, essential oils, botanical beauty products and Ayurvedic services sourced from Kerala, India. This page sets out our general Privacy Policy and our website Terms of Use. Because some of what we sell relates to health, we also maintain a separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy as required by the Washington My Health My Data Act (chapter 19.373 RCW) — that policy governs any consumer health data we handle and is linked from our homepage.
2. Personal information we collect
We collect only what we reasonably need to run our business:
- Contact and inquiry details — your name, email address, phone number and the content of messages you send through our contact form or by email.
- Order and delivery details — billing and shipping information when you purchase from us.
- Consumer health data — where you order Ayurvedic medicines, a certified practitioner's prescription is required before shipment. Prescription details and related information are handled exclusively under our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
- Technical data — standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) used for security and to keep the site working.
3. How we collect, use and protect information
We collect personal information directly from you — through the contact form, email, phone or an order — and use it to respond to inquiries, process and deliver orders, meet our legal obligations, and improve our products and website. We do not sell personal information. We take reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold: our website is served over HTTPS, form submissions are validated and rate-limited, access to inquiries is limited to the people who need to respond, and we delete information we no longer need.
4. Sharing
Because our products are grown, prepared and shipped from Kerala, order and delivery details may be shared with our operations and logistics partners in India, and with the carriers who deliver your order. Our website and email infrastructure may store data with hosting providers in other jurisdictions. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own marketing.
5. Cookies and analytics
Our website is intentionally light on tracking. We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not use geofencing of any kind. Any cookies used are limited to essential site functionality. Embedded third-party content (for example, YouTube videos on our Explore page) may set its own cookies under the relevant provider's privacy policy — those providers act independently of us.
6. Email marketing
We send marketing email only to people who have asked for it. Every marketing message we send complies with the federal CAN-SPAM Act: it identifies us truthfully, includes our contact details, and contains a working unsubscribe link that we honor promptly.
7. Children
Our products and services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Data breach notification
If a security breach compromises your personal information, we will notify you without unreasonable delay and within 30 days as required by Washington's data breach notification law (RCW 19.255), and will notify the Washington Attorney General where the law requires it.
9. Access, correction and deletion
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing contactus@southernhillspices.com. We will verify your request and respond within 45 days. Requests concerning consumer health data follow the rights process in our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
10. Residents of other states
If you live in a state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law (such as California, Colorado, Virginia, Oregon or Texas), you may have additional rights — including access, deletion, correction and opt-out of sale or targeted advertising. We extend access, deletion and correction to all customers regardless of residence; contact us to exercise them.
11. Ayurvedic and dietary products
Ayurvedic medicines are dispatched only against a certified doctor's prescription. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Our content is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified practitioner about your individual circumstances, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a medical condition.
12. Consumer protection and terms of sale
We stand behind our products. Nothing on this site limits the rights you have under the Washington Consumer Protection Act (RCW 19.86) or other applicable consumer law. Prices, availability and shipping timelines are indicative and confirmed at the time of order. Perishable goods such as seafood have specific handling requirements that we communicate with your order.
13. Website terms of use
The content of this website — text, photography, video and design — is owned by or licensed to Southern Hill Spices and is protected by copyright law. You may view and share links to our content, but you may not reproduce it commercially without our written permission. Information on this site is provided for general information only and is presented "as is". Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington and applicable federal law of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Washington.
15. Changes to this policy
We review this policy regularly — including as Washington's proposed comprehensive privacy legislation (the People's Privacy Act, HB 1671) progresses — and will post updates on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
